Deployment description
Describe how the nets are laid out, identified and recovered. Provide a sketch where several net positions need to be discussed and mark the information the operator wants to see for each position.
Monitoring brief
Identify the existing receiving and display equipment, if any. Ask what documents are needed to review the proposed buoy and receiver arrangement against that equipment.
Evaluation plan
State the operating area and the conditions you want your reviewer to assess. Request the proposed system description, identification method and maintenance documents, then record the checks needed before the deployment decision.
Keep the net plan current
When the deployment sketch changes, identify which net positions or operator requirements are affected. Ask the supplier to explain the effect on the proposed equipment arrangement. Keep the revised net plan, receiving equipment reference and identification questions together so the reviewer assesses the intended operation rather than an earlier version of the brief.
Turn the fishing operation into a location brief
Describe the net operation that your team wants the location proposal to address. Identify the gear concerned, how the crew distinguishes it and where the location information would be viewed. Provide your own operating area and retrieval routine as requirements for discussion. Ask the supplier to explain the proposed arrangement in relation to those requirements. Keep the request focused on the particular net operation rather than using a general fishing vessel description, and mark any part of the retrieval routine that still needs a decision from the operator.
Prepare a simple record linking each intended gear reference to the information the crew wants to see. Ask which identification and location fields the proposed equipment would provide and how those fields would appear on the intended receiving arrangement. Request a demonstration description or relevant documentation for that proposal. If the crew already uses equipment to view information, provide its exact identification and ask for a response about that combination. Leave compatibility open until the documents address the receiving equipment and configuration actually intended for the fishing operation.
Explain how the crew plans to place, inspect and retrieve the proposed buoy arrangement, and request the installation and handling instructions needed for review. Include photographs or sketches of the intended attachment location where available. Ask the supplier to identify restrictions relevant to that location and to describe the proposed maintenance information. Do not transfer an arrangement from a different vessel or net operation without reviewing it against your own brief. Have the person responsible for the gear review the proposal and identify questions requiring clarification before selection.
For the purchasing decision, gather the net references, proposed equipment description and viewing requirements into the same review file. Ask for an itemised response to the unresolved identification, installation and retrieval questions. Define what your operator would need to observe in a proposed demonstration before accepting the arrangement. Keep that acceptance task separate from any assumption about coverage or retrieval outcomes. If the gear layout, receiving equipment or operating routine changes, send the change back for review and retain the revised response with the proposal selected for that operation.
If the crew uses different names for gear on board and in purchasing records, include both references in the enquiry and explain their relationship. Ask the operator to review the proposed identification presentation against that mapping. Keep the gear references with any demonstration notes so the proposed buoy arrangement is assessed for the actual retrieval task described by the buyer.
