Vessel brief
Describe the vessel and its intended operating context. Provide the existing steering equipment identification and any available arrangement drawing so the inquiry concerns the actual installation.
System boundary
Identify the controls and equipment you want included in the request. Ask for the proposed system diagram and component list, and separate existing equipment from items being proposed.
Technical review
Request the model-specific specification, installation manual and interface documentation. Give those documents to the person reviewing the vessel installation and record any compatibility questions before selecting a configuration.
Keep the system proposal traceable
Ask the supplier to identify the equipment version and configuration on the system diagram. Mark any component that differs from the vessel brief and request its installation documents. Keep the steering review comments with that diagram so a later change to the proposed equipment can be assessed against the same vessel information.
